Questions about our Christmas tree recycling drive
How does the Program Work
- Reserve on the web using the provided form. We will note your name, address, email, and phone number and send you a confirmation.
- On the designated day, teams of Scouts and drivers will collect trees. We will start at 8:00 AM so have your trees out early.
- Make sure that you put out a bare tree. We cannot accept trees with tinsel, garland, flocking or attached bases.
- Recycled Christmas trees are used for conservation projects in our community and forests.
How much does it cost?
Tree recycling is both a community service and a fundraising event for our Troops. We will collect trees from all addresses in McCall that have a reservation. We suggest a donation of $20 to $25 for the collection service, but can accept donations in any amount. All donations are tax deductible.
How is my donation used
Your donations will go towards BSA Troop 246 & Venturing Crew 2 summer camp, leadership training and other Scout activities and expenses. We rely on fundraisers and donations throughout the year to fund many of our programs and activities.
Do you collect trees from outside of McCall?
YES! Trees will be collected from any address within the McCall or Donnelly zip codes areas.
When does the tree recycling happen?
We will make every effort to pickup your tree on the designated day as listed above. We can only pickup trees for those that have a reservation, so make sure that you sign up using the form above.
Weather Delays on collection day
We will do our best to collect all trees, regardless of weather conditions, on the scheduled day. If there is a storm or other weather related delay, we will send an email with a revised plan for collection.
What if I live in an apartment or condo?
We collect trees from all addresses, even condos and apartments. However, we don’t want to leave a mess of pine needles around your apartment or condo front door. We strongly suggest that you coordinate with your property manager to arrange an appropriate place for you and other residents to leave your trees for recycling.
What about wreaths, holiday plants and other live holiday items?
We can only accept Christmas trees for this drive.
What if I wish to pay with a check?
If you prefer to donate on the day of the event, please make your check payable to “BSA Troop 246″ and place it in an envelope. Place that envelope in a baggie and secure the baggie to the base of your tree when you set it out for collection.
How safe are online donations?
What about fees to process online transactions?
The Troops get charged for all online donations. Our processing fees are approximately 2.9% of the transaction amount. If you wish to assist in covering these fees, select the “other” amount option and indicate your total donation in that field. Otherwise, our suggested donation amounts take these fees into account.

Don't have a tree to recycle?
You can still donate to our drive and receive a charitable tax deduction. All donations are greatly appreciated and help us fund our troop’s trips and activities.
